Agriculture : wetland interactions. Exploring agriculture : wetland interactions : a framework for analysis -- Methods and sources -- Assessment of agriculture : wetland interactions across the case database --- Case studies. Small swamp wetlands in southwest Ethiopia -- Revitalizing regulating services : the Netherlands floodplan policy -- Oil-palm estate development in Southeast Asia : consequences for peat swamp forests and livelihoods in Indonesia -- Agriculture in tropical river basins : impacts on aquatic lagoon and estuary ecosystems -- Integrated rice and fish culture/capture in the lower Songkhram River basin, northeast Thailand -- Responses and guidance. Response scenarios -- From analysis to guidance.
Summary: Agriculture is identified as the main cause of wetland degradation and loss. Using a drivers, pressures, state changes, impacts and responses (DPSIR) framework to analyze 90 cases drawn from all parts of the world and all wetland types, this report assesses the character of agriculture - wetlands interactions (AWIs) and their impacts in socio-economic and ecosystem services terms. The report is a technical framework that is used to scope out the relevance and nature of AWIs, identify responses, identify opportunities and set out guidelines. The accompanying CD-ROM contains the DPSIR database and tutors.--Publisher's description.
